ABOUT YOURSELF

My name is Jen Mankins and I have been living in Brooklyn and working in fashion since 1999. I have owned Bird since 2004 and what started as a small local shop in Park Slope now includes three multi-brand shops representing over 200 designers and E-Commerce shopbird.com. I am passionate about products and love searching the world for the very best designers. I am allergic to most wools except cashmere, so was thrilled to discover DemyLee when it was launched and offers incredible cashmere at very accessible price points.

FAVORITE CITY

My favorite city is Brooklyn, le duh! I honestly couldn't imagine living anywhere else, except maybe in a chic Scandinavian cottage on the sea. But seriously, the people and businesses and culture in Brooklyn are the best. I also LOVE Paris, and am lucky to spend 3-4 weeks there every year, but Brooklyn is home.

GO-TO GARMENT

Anything tie-dye or cashmere (preferably both) and Birkenstocks. I sound like an old, discerning hippie, and probably look like one too.

COCKTAIL DRINK

Anything made with Tito's Vodka from Austin, TX. Usually just Tito's and a splash of soda, but I also love a dirty martini and a Moscow mule made with ginger beer, or fresh ginger syrup.

INFLUENCE

I am very influenced by art and architecture, travel and street style wherever I find myself. I am very curious and always checking out everyone wherever I go. I especially love finding all the local, folk, traditional craft stores and designs when I travel. And I am obsessed with Scandinavia, Mexico and Japan.
